// The Redfield Siblings

Claire and Chris have an extremely close relationship. This is bluntly obvious from their interactions with each other, and most notably, the fact Claire set out to search for him when he disappeared. It seems the two were keeping in contact with each other a lot because it only took a few months for Claire to start worrying about where her brother went. Even after discovering he was in Europe, Claire was completely set on finding her brother, especially after learning what he went through with Umbrella. Chris, on the other hand, wanted to protect his sister from the company. He cut her out of his life while he focused on destroying Umbrella.

Both Chris and Claire put their lives on the line for each other. After the incident in Raccoon City, Claire very well could've settled on the knowledge Chris was in Europe. But no. She was determined to know if he was safe or not. In reality, she didn't help brother or even herself. Claire was found trespassing in Umbrella's Paris facility and taken to Rockfort Island. There, she was able to contact Leon, who was finally able to contact Chris. Chris left Europe to help Claire, and ending up causing Jill to think he was in terrible danger when she arrived at his little home. Ironically, by the time Chris came to Claire's rescue, she had already left the island and ended up in the Antarctic. If Chris was an uncaring man who cared about his wellbeing only, he could've just returned to Europe. But like Claire after she escaped Raccoon City, he had to know her condition.

Most siblings grow up fighting, but this does not seem the case with the Redfields. If Chris and Claire grew-up with uncaring parents, both may have had a hard time learning what was right and what was wrong. It may have been Chris' time in the Air Force that molded his ability to be moral and caring. However, he was dishonorably discharged because of frequent disagreements with his superior officers. This fact makes it known that he will choose his instincts rather than his orders. Together, they might have raised themselves and Chris' knowledge was passed down to his younger sister.

Their personalities are remarkably similar, too. Both have a tendency to protect others. With Sherry, Claire knew she was in trouble and felt an immediate bond, almost motherly. Even at the beginning of RE2, Claire was desperate to come back and save Marvin, even though he was doomed. Claire saw Sherry’s need for protection, whether or not she had to do it. Yes, Miss Redfield could’ve just left her there and escaped the city own her own. But she didn’t. With Chris, he took Rebecca under his wing, providing her protection, even though she didn't need it 100%.

Rodrigo is another prime example of Claire’s compassion. If he hadn’t kidnapped her and dragged her to a prison, Claire would’ve reunited with her brother quicker and none of the horror on Rockfort would’ve involved her. Instead, she was able to see the goodness in Rodrigo and repaid him by giving him needed medicine for his wound. In many ways, Claire exchanging her lighter shows how helpful she can be. The lighter was a gift from Chris, something she cherished deeply. Yet, she knew it would be a lot more useful for him. She decided not to think of herself first, just like Chris would have.

Chris and Claire read people very well to the point where they know why others act they way they do. But why does Claire feel the need to protect? Chris has most likely looked after her a good portion of her life, and she herself wants to be the protector in return. She tries to look after Chris and even if she succeeds, he’ll always be the ‘big brother’ while she’ll always be the ‘little sister’. Since she cannot be labeled the stronger one in the family she takes after her brother and looks after others.

Chris and Claire also wear certain jackets, that if worn at the same time would look rather cheesy, but separately it just goes to show how much their kinship means to each other. Chris' bonus costume the first game (both the remake and original) includes a jacket with a bomber angel on the back and reads "Made In Heaven" above. In Resident Evil 2, Claire wears a similar jacket, but it is pink and feminine. During the gameplay of RE2 you can see Chris' jacket hanging by his desk. It can be debated who came up with the idea first. The slogan is rather feminine, but the symbol was an actual design used in the military, which could be where Chris came up with it.

Overall, both Chris and Claire have their differences and their similarities. Both have a sore spot and the spot where they feel the need to serve and protect. Claire seems more outgoing than Chris, and doesn't seem to have a notorious temper. She has learned from Chris and knows protecting others is the right thing to do. There’s not much they won’t do to keep their moral standings and help destroy Umbrella.
