Three months after the incident in Raccoon City, Claire breaks into the Umbrella facility in France. In search for both information and her brother, Claire ends up caught. She makes a desperate attempt at fleeing while being chased by armed guards and helicopters shooting at her through windows. She is soon surrounded by guards. Being as clever as she is, she spots a gas tank behind the bunch and shoots it. The entire group goes down, but still, a remaining guard named Rodrigo traps her at gun-point. Claire is taken prisoner and flown to Rockfort Island, which contains a prison specifically for Umbrella traitors and people with inside information.

The guards brutally knock Claire unconscious. She sleeps for hours until waking to loud rumbling and explosions. Her solitary is interrupted when Rodrigo stumbles into the one-cell enclosure, badly wounded. He unlocks Claire from her cell, and tells her to go. Confused, Claire wonders why she is being let free. He informs her the island is ‘done for’ and her freedom is at least something she deserves, even though he doubts she’ll make it. Attempting to mend his wounds, he discovers the supply of Hemostatic, his needed medicine for his wound, is gone.

Nonetheless, Claire leaves the small jail area and makes her way up to the outside world. Directly taken to a cemetery, Claire walks through it without a second thought. But an explosion of a truck reveals a man, who is in fact not-so dead. On the contrary, he’s a zombie. Unable to have the discovery sink in, even more zombies begin popping up from underneath her. Managing to escape the surrounding, Claire enters a courtyard. Automatically attacked by a machine gun, Claire takes cover and shoots back at the enemy firing. The other bullets cease and a boy shouts for Claire to stop. Realizing she is not zombie, the stranger jumps down from his hiding spot and introduces himself as Steve. Claire is untrusting at first, but soon decides he is harmless. Steve lamely flirts with her, and mentions an airport being located on the island. Instead of sticking together, Steve runs off, claiming Claire will only be a nuisance

Displeased, but determined, Claire begins searching the island. Quickly, she finds Steve messing with a computer in the security office. Steve questions who Chris Redfield is, and after Claire informs him of their shared bloodline, he tells her Umbrella has Chris under surveillance. Confused, Claire realizes Steve was reading information on the computer. She vocally admits to having an outside connection, and her need to contact Leon is immediate. Steve laughs and suggests sarcastically to give Leon the map coordinates of island so he can help out. Claire takes this as a serious suggestion, and does so. Steve lashes out, saying that no one is going to save them, and trusting someone else is just a waste of time. He storms off, leaving Claire once again confused.

The Redfield makes her way around the island decently well, until discovering a fancy facility. There, she spots a door with an engraving of two Luger guns. Knowing this is one of the puzzles Umbrella loves, she sets off to find the matching guns. When entering a small gun museum Claire accidentally turns on a film projector, which shows two twins tearing off the wings of dragonfly, only to watch it suffer in the hands of ants. As a result of the film being shown, a secret room is revealed, which holds the needed Lugers. Claire is unable to take the guns off the wall without a heat trap setting off, so she leaves them alone. Shortly after exiting the room, Claire hears Steve scream for help, and dashes back to the room. She discovers Steve has set off the trap as a result of stubbornly taking the guns off the wall. She manages to enter the right code in the revealed computer panel. The trap is released, and Steve is saved. He thanks her rather dully, and then Claire informs him of the need to have the guns. He dismisses it as a greedy act of wanting the weapon for defense. Before she has a chance to explain, Steve comes up with ‘a deal’. Claire must find a fully-automatic machine gun in exchange for the Lugers. Again, he runs off.

Making another attempt at an exit, Claire is soon attacked by a sniper gun. She dodges the bullet just in time. From behind her hiding place, she hears a man ranting about how she had ‘her people’ attack the island and spill the T-Virus at the same time. He introduces himself as Alfred Ashford, the leader of the island, and grandson of one of the original founders of Umbrella. Claire makes snarky remarks, which causes Alfred to become angrier. He leaves her alone for the time being.

Heading down to a newly discovered Military/Semi-Navy facility, Claire encounters more monsters and zombies to fight her way through. Eventually being followed by Alfred, he says absolutely nothing as he attempts sniping her down. Finding safety in the nearby building, Alfred locks her in, and foreshadows various ‘games’ he’s going to ‘play’ with her. Nowhere to go but through the remaining door, Claire finds herself trapped by a Bandersnatch after finally discovering an automatic gun to trade with Steve. Managing to kill the monster, Claire is then greeted by another Bandersnatch. This time, Claire is not so lucky. The monster grabs hold of her.

Alas, Steve makes a well-timed appearance, jumping through a window to shoot down the monster. Successful, Steve says to Claire “Your knight in shining armor is here,” for a lamely, but darling attempt to flirt. He is ignored when Claire notices he’s holding the Lugers. She gives him the Sub-Machine Guns, which makes the boy extremely happy. They exchange and Steve pulls the triggers for a test-run… only to discover there is no ammo. Upset, he turns around to face Claire who is giggling insanely. She calms down and tells him there is no need to fret – ammo is just a footstool away.

Spotting the ammo on a stack of crates, Steve gives Claire somewhat of a ‘piggy-back’ so she can get a hold it. When she hands it to him they seem to be on the verge of bonding, but are interrupted when Alfred activates the moving catwalk they are standing upon. Taken to the lower levels of the facility, Steve tells Claire to stay put as he clears a path. He goes ahead of her, indeed shooting down some zombies so Claire can safely trot through. When they catch up to each other, Steve compliments himself, and says the guns are a lot more reliable than any human. Finding this astonishingly untrue, Claire questions what he means. Steve does not respond, but Claire pesters by more questions of what he’s doing on Rockfort and why. He tells her to shut up and begins firing his guns into the air in an attempt to rid his anger. Claire reads the gestures clearly and decides not to ask anymore.

They head off together, but are once again given a detour when the walkway falls through, landing them in the lower part of the room. As a result of the accident, Claire’s legs become trapped under a pile of rocks and debris. Before Steve is able to help his friend, Claire shouts for him to turn around. Steve spots a zombie behind him, but the zombie is his father. Unable to kill him, Steve stands in shock as he tries to decide what to do. The zombie ignores Steve and heads right for Claire. Inches away from Claire’s skin, Steve knows he has to save Claire, and shoots the zombie until his guns click dry. Horrified by what he has done, he falls to his knees and weeps. Claire manages to concentrate on releasing herself from the mess, and comforts Steve simply by hearing his story. He tells Claire about his father. His father worked for Umbrella, but began selling information to outsiders for high prices. Eventually caught, Umbrella soldiers murder Steve’s mother and sent both Steve and his father to Rockfort as a punishment.

Steve continues to silently weep, and Claire decides its best to leave him be while he recovers. She goes in search of more items, but when she returns, Steve is no longer there. Having no choice, she continues searching the island.

Having found various items and now having possession of the Lugers, Claire heads back to the fancy facility. Placing the guns into the engraving unlocks the door, and eventually leads Claire to the Ashford Manor, where apparently Alfred and Alexia spent most of their childhood (their own personal doll house, if you will). In a hallway, she overhears Alexia and Alfred talking in a closed room. The twins’ conversation involves Claire, and Alexia assures Alfred they have nothing to worry about – Claire is just a ‘little girl’. After the pair leave, Claire realizes she’s in need of another item to get into the upper-part of the manor.

Claire heads down to the prison area again. Once she has found it, she makes a quick detour back to her old cell-block. There, the wounded Rodrigo still sits in pain. He questions why she came back. Claire hands him a container of Hemostatic, which she found on her journey. A quick silence is enough to tell he is extremely grateful. However, he tells her he doesn’t need help applying the medicine. Feeling the need to help a bit more, Claire gives the man her lighter. She explains Chris gave it to her, and while it is special to her, she believes it brings her luck… and now he needs it more than she does. In exchange, the man gives her a lockpick. Before she leaves, he informs her planes will be heading off, and if she really wants to get off the island, her chance lies there. They say a quick farewell, and part ways.

As Claire is ready to go back to the Ashford Manor she is stopped on her way, by a familiar voice shouting “Greetings”. Confused and unable to see the face of the man Claire asks who he is, and slyly, he responds by saying he is an old ghost coming back to haunt Chris. Claire automatically recognizes him as Chris’ former captain and traitor of the STARS team, Albert Wesker. Claire, being the fearless (yet foolish) girl she is, snaps at him and says Chris is nothing but a good man. Wesker rewards with a snap across the face – one that sends her flying all the way off the terrace steps. Knowing a human cannot possessive such power, Claire realizes something is wrong. He continues beating her up, while taunting her about how great it will be to have Chris watch her die. Before anymore damage can be done, Wesker is contacted by one of his men. Knowing his duties are more important than personal vendettas, he leaves Claire be, and disappears from her sight after showing off his inhuman glowing eyes.

Claire finally is able to make it all the way up to the top level of the Ashford Manor. There, she finds the last piece to a puzzle, which will give her access to a plane. With things looking up, she begins to exit the manor. On her way down, Alexia confronts Claire, and proclaims that on behalf of the Ashford Family, she will kill her. The girl tries to talk her way out of it, but before anything can be done, Steve storms into the room. Spotting Alexia, Steve shoots her, only to be shot as well. Alexia turns and leaves the room, leaving the wounded Steve and Claire alone. Claire rushes to Steve’s side and asks him if he’s okay. Steve shrugs it off and claims “it’s just a scratch”.

They follow Alexia into the room she rushed off to, only to discover it empty. On a music box Claire notices a blonde wig. She reaches for it, but is attacked by Alfred who was hiding in the room. Unfinished business causes Steve to violently attack the man back, kicking him down and holding him at gun-point. Alfred turns around to check his surroundings, only to see his reflection in the mirror. He sees himself as Alfred Ashford, but the lipstick, blush, and eye shadow reveal something horrifying to him. He screams with disgust and charges out of the room. Confused, Steve vocally wonders what just happened. Claire quickly puts together Alfred was dressing up as Alexia. A split personality, Steve quickly concludes. Before anymore chat can occur, the self-destruction system signal clicks on, causing panic for the duo. They decide to head for the airport.

As they are running to the airport, they notice a group of planes jetting off already, the ones Rodrigo told Claire about. When they board the remaining plane, they see an inside bridge is blocking the way. Take-off would be impossible. Claire promises to take care of it. She heads back into the Navy facility and switches the control for the bridge to raise up, giving the plane a clear path. Unable to use the bridge to head back, Claire takes another route around the entire island. However, in the meantime Alfred has released a Tyrant, and when Claire encounters this monster she has no choice but to fight. Handling that quite well, she reaches the airport. Steve is relieved of her return, and the two quickly fly off the island for good.

Having time to finally bond, Steve admits he hopes Claire finds Chris, as he knows what it’s like to be alone. Before much more is said, a signal of a disturbance in the cargo area goes off, and Claire goes back to investigate. She is horrified to discover the Tyrant she fought on Rockfort found its way on the plane. She defeats it by letting loose a large cargo box, which slams into the Tyrant and sends it flying into the sky. Returning to the deck, she gives a flip explanation of what was wrong. As Steve continues flying the plane, it suddenly switches to auto-pilot, and Alfred appears on the transmission screen, telling them they will be taken somewhere else.

Left with nothing else to do, Steve and Claire fall into a much-needed sleep. Resting against the control panels, Steve awakens before Claire. He gives her a long gaze and begins leaning in for a kiss. Only an inch away, Claire stirs in her sleep, causing him to back away and stand up. His noises cause Claire to fully awaken. Steve stares out the window scenery. He is shocked to see ice and snow covering the land. He checks the longitude/latitude coordinates on the control panel, only to discover they are over the Antarctic. Ahead, they not only see the group of planes that left Rockfort right before they did, but also a facility. Realizing their plane is heading straight into the building, the two buckle-up in their seats and prepare for a crash landing.

After slamming through the building’s walls and coming to complete stop, they realize this survival may have been the luckiest so far. Steve kicks open the plane door and hops down onto a walkway. He makes a gesture informing Claire he will catch her when she jumps down. She does so, but in the process, Steve falls backwards and breaks her fall. The two stay entwined in each other’s arms for a few seconds, before Claire gets up and offers him a hand. He manages himself and the two decide to split up to find a way out of the facility.

Claire encounters numerous problems during her search – including the fact this facility, too, has been overrun by zombies. The people in the planes carried the virus all the way to their new location. Fighting through another outbreak, Claire and Steve eventually meet up when discovering a drill-car. Steve informs her of an Australian Base being nearby. They come up with an idea to drill through the building wall and find the base that way. As Steve uses a machinery to transfer the drill to an upper-level of the facility, he is distracted by the presence of Claire. He gives her a passionate gaze, one in which ends up causing him to smash a toxic gas line with the drill. They run out of the room before any damage can be done to their bodies, but cannot go back into the room without a gas mask. Steve feels foolish for his raging hormones and vocally blames himself. Claire comforts him by saying they will find a way to escape together.

They separate, and Claire finds a valve to shut off the gas, as well as a gas-mask to enter the room. She does so, but is surprised by the appearance of Alfred, who has followed them all the way to the Antarctic. Ready to shoot the Redfield, Steve bursts into the room, shooting Alfred and causing him to loose his balance and fall into a large hole in the floor. With no time to waste, the reunited duo gets into the drill-car and pierce through the cement walls. When they reach the freezing outside, they spot a ladder leading to a helicopter pad. They climb up and discover a flight of stairs, leading down towards another part of the Antarctic base. Before they are able to walk down the stairs, Claire spots a monster heading straight towards them. Desperate to protect his friend, Steve shoves her out of the way and attempts to shoot the monster. A tied-back antenna releases from the creature’s back and knocks Steve over the side of the helicopter platform. He grabs onto the side, but with the monster coming towards Claire, she has no time to save Steve. She fights the monster in a rush, and defeats it with barely any trouble at all.

Rushing to the area Steve fell, she helps the boy back up on the platform. Steve feels more self-loathing, as he could not protect Claire the way he desired to do so. Claire shrugs it off, saying he has nothing to worry about. After she starts walking down the steps, Steve whispers “I swear I’ll protect you next time, Claire…”

As they reach the bottom of the stairs, they are happy to discover a snow mobile. They jump inside – this time Claire driving – and start driving to the Australian Base. Struck with luck, they drive off, believing they are safe once and for all…

Unfortunately, their driving lasts for only a few minutes when a giant tentacle smashes into the back of the vehicle, wrapping around it and throwing them off into the icy wonderland. It bursts into a fire, leaving Claire and Steve in horrible danger.

Claire awakes hours (possibly days) later, in the arms of her brother Chris Redfield. Chris received the message from Leon and traveled to Rockfort Island, only to find Claire nowhere. Discovering she was in the Antarctic, he flew there on the remaining plane, and finally, reunites with his little sister. Right away, Claire informs Chris of the need to find her new friend, Steve. The siblings’ reunion is short-lived when a woman begins cackling. She stares at the two and says, “It’s almost time you genetically inferior siblings,” – which causes Chris to shout the acquaintance’s name: Alexia. Confused, Claire questions about there really being an Alexia. Before any explanations can be given, the woman walks off. They run after her, but are attacked by a similar tentacle from before.

Wounded, Chris orders Claire to go ahead without him. She hesitates, but when she hears an echoing scream of Steve from afar, she dashes off to find him. Claire finds her friend strapped to a chair in a strange room, and blocked by an ax stuck in the wall. She tries to get him out, but to no avail. Steve says Alexia did this to him, and said she alluded to performing the same experiment she practiced on her own father. No more can be said, as Steve makes a choking gurgle and is unable to breathe. Confused, but wanting to save him, Claire can do nothing but watch as Steve’s eyes roll back as if he has died. Instead, he begins transforming into a large, green monster, similar to the Tyrants the Redfield has had to fight. A gate at the end of the room clicks to shut, and with no other choice, she runs towards safety.

With the same ax that was holding him down, Steve uses it as a weapon to attack Claire as she runs. She manages to get on the other side of the gate right before it closes. The barrier between them lasts only a while. Steve breaks through just as another tentacle smashes through and wall and grabs hold of Claire. Nearly cutting off her circulation, Claire writhes around, frantic for release.

The monster-Steve stomps closer and closer towards her, lifting his ax and planning to decapitate his prey. He swings it towards her head, while Claire whimpers and prepares for the worse. The second passes by, and Claire opens her eyes only to see the blade of the ax completely still. She looks towards Steve, who lets out a moan, one that echoes her very name. Lifting his ax again, Steve destroys the tentacle… but not before it lashes back and a gives Steve a powerful blow all the way across the enclosure. He slams against the wall, and begins transforming back into his regular form. Claire gets up, and rushes to Steve’s side. Seeing the pain he is in, she puts a hand to his cheek and tells him Chris has come to save them both. Steve says Chris kept his promise, and apologizes for not being able to keep his own. Confused, Claire asks what he means by that. Steve only responds by saying, “I’m glad that I met you. I… I love you, Claire…” Those are Steve’s final words before his last breath. Immediately, Claire breaks down, and begins sobbing in Steve’s lifeless arms.

She continues crying until she hears Chris at the door. He asks about Steve, but she responds with a sob that reveals all-too much. He then asks her to open the door, but she tells him it’s locked. Then, she informs him to activate the self-destruct system – for it will release all electronic locks. He goes off to do so, and when successful, she is forced to leave behind the body of Steve.

Claire catches up to Chris quickly. Soon after, a mutated Alexia breaks through the flooring and prevents the siblings from an escape. Both dash over to the wall where a Linear Launcher is locked, and together they release the latches. Chris demands Claire leave while he deals with Alexia’s mutated form. After a short of argument, she agrees. Claire begs him not to die on her, and then dashes away. On her way towards an elevator that will bring her to the area where Chris landed the plane, Albert Wesker, who has somehow managed to arrive at the facility, catches her.

After defeating Alexia, Chris finds Wesker holding Claire hostage, and runs after his sibling as Wesker begins running off. He catches them at another part of facility. Demanding Wesker release Claire, the clad agrees, and throws her down to the floor. Helping her up, Chris listens to Wesker reveal how grand the day it will turn out: he will get his hands on the T-Veronica and also kill Chris. Chris laughs and says that Alexia is dead. Wesker shrugs and says it’s no longer a concern…. because he has Steve. Wesker explains Steve has the T-Veronica in his system, and then presses Claire’s feelings by saying maybe Steve can come back from the dead, just as he himself did. Claire orders Wesker not to touch him, and even attempts to attack the man. Chris holds her back and then tells Claire to leave once again. Claire argues, but Chris says it’s his duty as a surviving member of STARS, to deal with Wesker. Claire uneasily leaves and makes it to the jet plane’s rendezvous point. She gets in, and sits tight as she waits for her brother.

The self-destruct system’s time begins hitting lower and lower, and Claire continues to wait in both of mix of fear and faith. The elevator doors open and Chris is sent flying through the air due to an explosion. He conveniently lands on top of the jet, and the first thing out of his mouth is the reassurance that he always keeps his promises.

Chris flies the jet successfully off into the air. Claire lets out a long sigh, and touches her brother’s shoulder with adoration. She asks him never to leave her again, but Chris says it’s not over yet. It won’t be over until they destroy Umbrella once and for all.
