Relationships

Hewie

Fiona firsts encounters Hewie where she attacks. He jumps over, scaring Fiona to death. He has dropped his collar, which reads Hewie, of course. Later, Fiona finds Hewie bound to a tree by his neck. Releasing the dog, she tells him to be free. Shortly after, Debilitas attacks Fiona, but Hewie rescues her. From then on, Hewie follows Fiona throughout her journey, helping her in every way possible: attacking villains, fetching items, sniffing out clues, and releasing her from traps. Without Hewie, Fiona may have never escaped the clutches of Belli Castle's inhabitants.

Hewie is a four year-old White German Shepherd. Why he is captive at the castle is unknown, but because Riccardo survives by sucking out animal's Azoth, perhaps this was why he is there. Another theory is he was going to be used to pick Mandragora, since animals are immune to their attacks.

Debilitas

Debilitas is the first 'bad guy' Fiona comes across. He throws a doll in her path, causing her to fall over in surprise. When Debilitas makes his appearance, he picks up the doll, but soon notices Fiona. Dropping his toy, he makes an attempt to attack the girl. Fiona is forced to run from the frightening mutant for the entire Act I of the game. Later, you discover his 'cabin' which is a tool shed. Inside, there are a few gardening tools, but mostly, dolls, candles, toys, and a bed. There's even a nursery in the mansion which has many dolls, most likely belonging to Debilitas himself.

When Fiona finally battle Debilitas in the church the player has two options: One, to kill him, or two, to spare his life by dropping a chandelier on him. If the player chooses to kill him, that's the end of Mr. Debilitas and he never appears again. If they let him live, it works out better. He will leave the church and go back to this cabin. When Fiona visits him, he drops to his knees, clamping his hands as if begging for forgiveness. In the process he gives Fiona the Smudged Key. It unlocks a stall in the bathroom, which leads to a basement. Down there Fiona obtains boots. The second time someone plays the game, boots and another key are waiting for Miss Belli. The key is for the Castle Gate, which allows Fiona to leave the estate at that point. Gameplay-wise, the player finishes the game there, receiving a new ending and ranking.

Debilitas sees Fiona as a perfect 'doll'. She actually resembles some of his own. His purpose for chasing her is because he wants to play. Up until the battle at the church, Debilitas never realized he was hurting Fiona when he pushed, kicked, and punched her - he thought it was game and nothing more. Debilitas suffers from some sort of mental illness, but it is not known if he is human or an experiment of Lorenzo's. Possibly, he could be a creation in the search for eternal life, but as a failure he became a servent, forced to keep the garden and surronding land of the castle clean-kept. He is the gardener there, and the player even gets to witness this if they watch Ending A (which you achieve by not killing him).

Daniella

Fiona first meets Daniella when she enters the guest room. There, Daniella lays out clothes for her. Fiona asks Daniella where they are, but she does not respond, only looking at a painting and saying to her 'master' they would keep her there for quite a while. Later in the game, Daniella stops Fiona from traveling to the Old Mansion to serve her dinner. It is then that Daniella reveals she cannot taste, experience, or feel pain and pleasure. Fiona, feeling sick from the meal, goes to rest in bed. When the blonde awakes, Daniella is hovering over her, carressing her body. Daniella walks away and starts staring out the window. She then begins to bang her head aganist it until the glass cracks. She obtains a glass saber from the bits and tries to attack Fiona the weapon. Fiona makes a run for it - even managing to get back to the Old Mansion entrance. She trips on the way up the stairs, but before Daniella gets her, the maid stops in front of a mirror and starts screaming. For the rest of Act II Daniella is the predator, chasing after Fiona as she searches for a way out.

Daniella and Fiona have their final battle in a reading room near the library. Daniella hisses hateful words at Fiona, but it becomes obvious Daniella hates the girl, because she wants to be her, wants to have the feelings she has. Fiona and Hewie are forced to battle it out, managing to set up a trap for Daniella's body to be paralyzed for a short while. As she is frozen, Daniella lets out a blarring scream, one that breaks the large window above. She is killed by a shard of glass, which peirces through her body. But Daniella simply smiles, and allows the glass to finish its work. She is glad to finally die.

Daniella has no physical feelings, no soul, nothing. She's a creation, most likely one of Lorenzo's. The most likely theory is that in Lorenzo's attempt to find eternal life, he created Daniella. While she obviously will never age, she's imcomplete by not having emotions, and not even being human for that matter.

Riccardo

Riccardo first introduces himself to Fiona during Act I, where he saves her from Debilitas. He tells Fiona he is the keeper of the castle. He quickly informs the girl Ayla and Ugo (her parents) have died, and Fiona soon realizes it was the car crash that killed them. He also tells her she is the sole heir of the estate and everything with it. Fiona, confused and unsure, faints, and he brings her back to her suite for rest.

Fiona does not see him again until Act III. She meets him in a lab, where she has uncovered a clone of a woman, possibly one of herself. He asks her to come with him, but she refuses. Riccardo tells her she is selfish for not wanting everything she has, and that the Azoth was wasted on such a greedy soul. From that point on, Riccardo violently chases her with his gun.

In the Chaos Forest, Riccardo shoots Hewie in the leg. As Fiona tries to mend her companion's ingury, Riccardo sneaks up on her, and begins to attempt an attack. When Fiona meets a dead-end, Riccardo takes off his trademark hood and shockingly looks like Fiona's father. Riccardo reveals he and Ugo are clones, and this causes Fiona to remember the car crash. Riccardo was the one who caused the accident, killing Ayla, but not Ugo or Fiona. Riccardo quickly ends Ugo's life for good, taking his lesser form of Alchemy. He sees Fiona in the back seat and takes her back to the estate with the intention of stealing her Azoth, which she received from her father by heredity. Remembering this all, Fiona faints once again and Riccardo takes her to an examination room. It is unknown exactly what he is doing to her there, but the most logical explanation is he's checking her ovulation pattern. By impregnanting her, the child would have the Azoth.

Riccardo puts Fiona in a jail cell after the examination. Hewie normally comes to her rescue by providing her with the keys to escape, but if the player has abused Hewie a lot in the game, he doesn't show up, and Riccardo has Fiona in his hands forever. If this happens, the game ends here with Ending D. This ending is the most morbid, as it shows Fiona much later on, but carrying child. She has become like Daniella - no emotions, no feelings - and simply laughs as she rubs her belly. Riccardo will succeed in getting the Azoth.

However, if the player has given Hewie nothing but love, the game continues on. Fiona escapes her jail cell and begins searching for a way out of the Water Tower. Along the way, Hewie starts barking like crazy, and Fiona hears Riccardo talking. Unable to see the man, Fiona is forced to only listen, and he tells her he painted her eyes with a concoction that allows him to be invisble. Act IV features his invisble version, and if the act wasn't so short, he would be a pain in the ass (not that he isn't already). When Fiona manages to get to the top of the tower, he orders her to 'let him into her womb'. The final battle starts and Fiona orders Hewie onto the tower's very top. When Riccardo is standing near a cracked area in the balcony, Hewie jumps out with an attack, causing Riccardo to fall to his death, breaking his limbs harshly.

Riccardo has a form of Azoth, but mostly Alchemy. He survives by sucking out animal's Azoth. Hewie's original presence at the castle may have been for Riccardo's needs, and this possibly is why he's the only villian who pays attention to the dog so often.

Lorenzo

Lorenzo was the former keeper and ruler of the castle. He is his own personal experiment, and while he has eternal life, he continues to age even to the point of a crippled old man. He made Riccardo and Ugo, somehow creating them with some form of Azoth and Alchemy. Riccardo seems to have a lesser form of the Azoth/Alchemy, however. When Lorenzo ages to the state he is at in the game, Riccardo took control of the castle without Lorenzo's constent. Because of Lorenzo's condition, he cannot do anything for lurk in the shadows.

From the beginning of Fiona's captivity, he tries to help her out, giving and sending notes. Once, he even calls her on the phone, telling her to be 'wary of Riccardo'. For a while Fiona takes his hints and help withcaution, but obviously begins to trust this man, even though she never sees him face-to-face. After Riccardo's death, he sucks out the lesser form of Alchemy/Azoth by mouth and returns to The House of Truth, where he seems to reside.

When Fiona enters such House, Lorenzo eventually greets her peacefully, telling her Riccardo put her through quite a bit. Fiona starts to sense some oddness and stays away from him as he continues on with his words. Just as Fiona suspected, Lorenzo reveals his true intention: To have her Azoth just like Daniella and Riccardo. Fiona makes a run for it as this freakishly fast old man drags his body after her.

By the time they meet again, Riccardo's Alchemy has kicked in and Lorenzo appears as Ugo. Fiona mistakes him as her actual father at first, but the coldness in the man's voice makes Fiona realize it is Lorenzo. As he talks to her, he begins to transform into a younger version of himself. Now young and spiffy with powers beyond comprehension, he becomes the predator for the rest of the game. The two duke it out near the Alchemical Furnace, and it is Fiona who wins. Lorenzo falls into the pit-hole furnace.

Thinking she is safe at last, Fiona begins to search for a last escape. She doesn't even get two rooms away from the Alchemical Furnace when Lorenzo pops out, appearing as an inflamed man. As The House of Truth begins to tumble and break apart, Lorenzo chases her wildly down the last few halls. When Fiona reaches the exit, light shimmers through brightly. Inches away from freedom, Lorenzo stops her, blocking the entrance. The sun hits his inflamed body and he falls to a crisp, turning into nothing more than a pile of ash and a puff of smoke.

Fiona makes her escape from the castle for good.
