Why Ash/Gary?
Man, how long have I loved Pokémon? 12 years? I don’t even know, but it’s definitely been over a decade, ever since it came to America way back when. Admittedly, when I was younger, I didn’t understand why PalletShipping was so popular, but as I grew up and started to become a slash fan, my adoration of Ash and Gary’s relationship grew. I miss when they were full-fledged rivals, but I also appreciate how the characters have changed. There are many relationships in the series that I like, but Ash/Gary will always have a special place in my ’shipping heart.
Why the title, Adolescence?
One of Pokémon’s most prominent themes is adolescence and the surprising strength children possess with their never-ending dreams. Their hope and ambition is what drives them and, at times, hinders them. Ash and Gary’s rivalry was often a petty feud, consisting of immature behavior and arrogance. And, while they managed to escape that stage, they’re still children. There’s a beautiful agony in their youth, and I feel the title is very appropriate for their relationship.

On another note, thank you SkyLineIllusions.net and 77words, for providing the textures and backgrounds I used. Unfortunately, I am clueless to the name of the artist who drew the lovely piece of fanart. The picture was found on an imageboard years ago. If anyone knows, please tell me. They deserve proper credit.
